STEAM Stars

At some-thing Foundation, we create accessible and free digital and physical resources for learning and education. We support and connect STEAM advocates and enthusiasts, bringing them together to help produce comprehensive educational materials for all. One of the first projects that we’d like to get off the ground is STEAM Stars.

Originally launched in 2020, Reach Across the Stars aimed to highlight the stories of several important women in STEM. This experience features interactive augmented reality modules and one-on-one chats with featured female STEM heroes. As we look at today and into the future, this app has lost much functionality and cannot be updated as needed. This idea and resource has proven extremely useful to a curious generation of future explorers and deserves a revisit. We believe that free resources such as these should be built to last, and with this project, we intend to show exactly how we would do that.

some-thing Foundation will re-imagine the next generation of this learning tool, which has so much potential. In the next iteration, STEAM Stars will add “Art” to “STEM” to widen the stories and experiences included in the application. We will increase the accessibility and inclusivity of featured heroes and inject longstanding educational value as we rebuild this interactive to be more versatile and expansive—like our own Universe.

With the funding we receive for this project, we will lead the research and development of STEAM Stars to become the standard of free educational tools. We hope future curious explorers can immerse themselves in this experience and see where they fit in the vast STEAM universe.
